Steve Strange – RIP

Gli Spandau Ballet lo hanno appena ricordato dal palco di Sanremo. Scompare a 55 anni Steve Strange leader dei mai dimenticati Visage. Marc Green della casa discografica conferma la triste notizia: We are extremely saddened to announce that Steve Strange died at 11.15 local time on Thursday 12th February, in Sharm El Sheik International Hospital, Egypt. Steve died in his sleep, of Heart Failure. Steve’s family, band members and friends are all distraught at this sudden news of his untimely death. Steve’s family request privacy at this extremely difficult time. Steven John Harrington era nato in Galles e nel dicembre scorso era stato ricoverato a Bridgend (Galles) per “difficoltà respiratorie”. Due anni fa davamo notizia del ritorno dei Visage.

Il suo agente: “a hard-working, very amusing and lovable individual who always was at the forefront of fashion trends. Up until last year he was putting together a book of fashion styles based on the New Romantic movement and it comes as a great shock. We understood that he had certain health problems but nothing we knew was life threatening. His friends and family are totally shocked, we had no idea anything like this was likely to happen”.

Midge Ure: “As co founders of electronic band Visage, Rusty Egan and I are devastated to hear of Steve’s untimely passing. He epitomised the vibrancy and flair of the eighties and will always be remembered for being one of the instigators of the Blitz Club and figurehead of the Blitz Kids”

Marc Almond: “Steve Strange was a person who made the World a more colourful and wonderfully mad place, was always so sweet to me from way back in 81 at Molly Parkin’s parties, The Camden Palace, Club for Heroes to recent ’80s-related appearances. He WAS the New Romantic! Sad loss. And even when I was a provincial Northerner with all the wrong clothes he was such a nice Guy. A light goes out.”

Boy George: “Heartbroken about the death of my friend Steve Strange. So bloody sad. Such a big part of my life!”

Samantha Fox: “So sorry to hear that my friend Steve Strange – Visage has passed away peacefully in his sleep of a heart attack, so missed love Sam XX”

Kim Wilde: “‘I’m so grateful that life brought Steve and I together, he was funny, great company and completely bonkers in the most adorable way. ‘He would often call up for a long chat, and always asked after my husband Hal, and our children Harry and Rose. Steve was a family man first and often spoke of his beloved family in Wales. Steve will be remembered as the most elegant and beautiful of the New Romantics at the beginning of the 80s, and ‘Fade To Grey’ one of the very best and most influential records of the decade. I shall remember him for his humour and generous spirit; he really was a very lovely man”

Simon Le Bon: “the leading edge of New Romantic. God Bless him”

Billy Idol: “”Very sad to hear of my friend Steve Strange passing, Rip mate….. Vancouver we rock tonight in memoriam 4 Steve Strange who would b (sic) the first to want the show to go on, he was great!”
