Scompare un altro gigante. A 74 anni, per cause naturali, è morto a Smithville (Tennessee) Lonnie Mack (Lonnie McIntosh), influentissimo chitarrista blues, pioniere e mentore per calibri assoluti come Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Steve Ray Vaughan, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton. “In 1958, he bought his first Gibson Flying V, the guitar with which he became synonymous – legend has it that the release of 1963 guitar instrumental Wham! and its associated 1964 album, The Wham Of That Memphis Man, led to the vibrato arm being known as a whammy bar”. Nel 2001 entra nella International Guitar Hall Of Fame e nel 2005 nella Rockabilly Hall Of Fame.
“Mack attacked the strings with fast, aggressive single-string phrasing and a seamless rhythm style that significantly raised the guitar virtuoso bar and foreshadowed the arena-sized tones of guitar heroes to come” (Guitar World)
