È morto a 70 anni vinto dal cancro Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmister. A darne per primo notizia è stato l’amico Eddie Trunk via Twitter: “Sorry to report that I have confirmed Lemmy has passed away just now at the age of 70. RIP to a true original icon of rock”.
There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family. We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD. Have a drink or few. Share stories. Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.
HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.
Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister
Born to lose, lived to win.
Please feel free to post your condolences, well wishes and memories here
UPDATE – Mikkey Dee al magazine svedese Expressen dichiara la fine della band: “Motörhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motörhead. But the band will live on in the memories of many. We won’t be doing any more tours or anything. And there won’t be any more records. But the brand survives, and Lemmy lives on in the hearts of everyone”.
Il manager Todd Singerman rivela a Sky News: “Nobody had any idea, we just learned Saturday, two days ago (sic), that he even had cancer and the doctor told him he had between two to six months to live. He goes (dies) today as I was making calls to (bandmates) Phil and Mikkey telling them to come on out so they could have a last goodbye while he was still upbeat and everything. He was feeling mighty low… He wasn’t expected to die like that… He (Lemmy) gets home (from tour), we have a big birthday party for him at the Whisky A Go Go. His friends came down and played. Two days later I could tell he wasn’t feeling good so we took him to the hospital, they release him, then after the brain scan they found the cancer in his brain and his neck… The doctor comes with the result a couple of days later and says… it’s terminal. That caught everyone by surprise. That (cancer) was the last thing we thought he would ever have. When you think about it he has been to every doctor and hospital around the world and nobody caught that… That comes as a massive shock.”

Josh Homme – Actually, I’m pissed off Lem is dead. This sucks. One of the last REAL rock n roll motherfuckers has crossed over & I miss him. He was true to himself without question. He knew, there was no other pathway. A no bullshit, one of a kind, sharp tongued, hard livin’, un-PC, stylish, hilarious & flat out genuine badass leader. He didn’t give a fuck about yer peanut gallery, your anonymous opinion in the comment section or your fragile fucking sensibilities. Yet, he was always a caring & fascinating, kind & honest, gracious & a wise, intelligent & valuable friend. Never a bully, always a honorable rogue. You got a straight answer outta Lem, even if it was not what you wanted to hear. Because he was the genuine article. a maverick, an icon. The rest of these posers are trying to sell you water & champagne or are “building their brand”… Just Fucking snake oil salesmen. Toads. Greedy jive ass turkeys. Panderers. Hacks. Followers. Desperate for fame. Fuck fame. Fame is the toilet paper used on the ass of infamy. & infamy is dangerous & chaotic. Fuck safety. Fuck rules. Fuck insurance based suggestions. Lemme’s “brand” was forged in the fires of individuality & would scar you for life. Lemmy IS rock n roll. Lemmy cared for his crew, his fans & that’s it. He United punks & metalheads without being either, yet somehow embodied both. He had the respect from all scenes & sides. No one, I mean, no one else did. Or could’ve. You don’t respect or dig Motorhead?? Then You musta ain’t never heard em before or you jus don’t know shit about jack. Fact. Lemmy, You will never be forgotten. I’m Proud to have had spent so many hours lost in conversation with you brotha. All My love & respect to you. See you in Valhalla. Jho
The Warlocks – Well we lost one of the greats today. Rest in peace Lemmy. I’m not sure The Warlocks would have even formed if it wasn’t for the countless Hawkwind records you were apart of. Just listening to you play inspired us to keep trying. That killer spirit, those amazing driving riffs, the accidental collision between psych, hard rock, metal fueled by LSD and Speed which eventually got you kicked out of the band. You picked up the pieces and started Motörhead giving us decades of some of the hardest shit ever. We are all grateful and extremely humbled by you as a person. Thank you for the music Lemmy! Rest in peace- love past and present member of The Warlocks

Crocodiles – I had the good fortune of seeing Lemmy play many years ago. My father and sister were with me. It was killer, of course. Motörhead were a staple in my household growing up. Death is inevitable. Music is forever
Billy Bragg – A bad day for good music. First we lose Lemmy, now news that Brad from the Specials has passed away. RIP
Kirk Hammett – Lemmy was the finest of gentlemen. Back in 1979 when I was 16-years-old, I heard Overkill for the first time. I thought it was the fastest thing I’d ever heard, and I declared to all my friends that Motörhead were the fastest band in the land. When I had first seen pictures of what these guys looked like, I noticed a certain authenticity about them. I imagined they lived the way they looked and looked the way they lived. And I remember very distinctly having a realization that moment — I realized that it was ok to be an outsider and that it was ok to not feel like I had to conform to anything that I objected to in my teenage life because clearly the Motörhead guys in this picture looked like they didn’t conform to anything at all and boy it sure looked and sounded like they were enjoying themselves as a result. So I got a lot from that pic and that massive sound and that attitude. And I have to thank Lemmy, Fast Eddie and also the recently departed Philthy Animal for the inspiration, spark and fire that I felt so strongly from that night in 1979. That inspiration will always be there with me and may the music of Motörhead live on!
Hawkwind (Dave Brock) – So very sad to wake to the news that we have lost Lemmy. He was a character, a gentleman and a friend. I’ll miss him and especially our eccentric text conversations of recent years… We had a magical bond when we played together. He had a style all of his own and his legendary bass playing will live on forever…..We’ll miss you man, you’ll not be forgotten. DB
Babes In Toyland – Rest in peace, Lemmy
L7 – Rest In Peace Lemmy Kilmister, a long time supporter of L7 and women in rock in general. An inspiration, an icon, and a gentleman

Sean Yseult (White Zombie) – Missing #lemmy , and Joey. I have always said my holy trinity was the Ramones, the Cramps, and #motorhead. I had the good fortune to meet and befriend my idols, for which I am very thankful. Lemmy was always so sweet, even though I could never understand a word he was saying to me . Nice coincidence that Joey is wearing a Motörhead shirt here, the only thing odd is that I’m not wearing mine! RIP Lemmy!
Dave Grohl – Il tatuaggio con il logo di Ace of Spades
“Fast” Eddie Clarke – I have just been told that Lemmy has passed away in LA. Like Phil, he was like a brother to me. I am devastated. We did so much together, the three of us. The world seems a really empty place right now. I am having trouble finding the words… He will live on in our hearts. R.I.P Lemmy!
Matt Sorum – Today we lost the greatest badass in the history of Rock n Roll , Lemmy Kilmister . He was a man who lived his life with no apologies and lived the dream of a life on the road playing music to thousands of fans worldwide .Lemmy loved RNR and his fans. Never took them for granted and rocked as hard as he could night after night . With his opening line at every Motorhead show “We are Motorhead and we play Rock n Roll”. I met Lemmy in 89 when playing with The Cult in London in a small rock club called St Moritz . He opened his arms to me as I was new to the big leagues at that point . I felt accepted by him and that meant everything to me. The years ahead with Guns n Roses , The Cult and Velvet Revolver and travels on the road it was always a good time crossing paths with him . Likes Pirates on sailing ships . He was someone that carved the way and we followed by example . Stick to what you believe in , never waver and everybody else can fuck off . I got the call to play with Motorhead in 2009 and took the invitation meeting them in DC with no rehearsal . Although somewhat nervous the fans would kill me if I didn’t do the music justice . I played with the toughest rock n roll band in History and definitely the loudest . The best time was on the bus with countless stories from the very intelligent Lemmy. A well red man and history buff. It made you really love him like an elder statesman that you looked up too. A classic gentleman really. That’s what he was for me . He taught me to respect myself and have respect and gratitude for the life we’d be given. He will always remain in my heart as a guide to push on . Take no prisoners and never give up . The world of Rock is shaken today but thank god Lemmy was here to teach us how it’s supposed to be done. My condolences to his band mates PHIL and Mikkey and his family and close friends. God Speed my Friend , I love you and will miss you, Matt

Corey Taylor – A lot of people are going to talk about what a tragedy it is that our friend Lemmy died, and lament how sad it is. But I am going to talk about this: the man lived. He lived his life on his terms right up until the day he died. He played the music he loved. He never compromised, on style or volume. If there was ever a man who took no shit, prisoners or safe routes, it was Lemmy Kilmister. He was everything you wanted him to be: raw, loud, rude, funny and ready to play for his fans – which he did even when he had trouble getting on stage.
